Lately I have lost my partner Morgan to a book more than a drum. But the book is about drumming, so maybe its not so different.
When the Drummers Were Women by Layne Redmond is just amazing, I have been sneaking reads while Morgan is at work. Most surprising for me has been how much of our history, our mythology has been ignored or worse, changed, to suit the times.
This book is helping to inspire me, to spur me on. In the past I have scared easily and talked big but rarely acted. I guess I have just got tired of that, finally. So this year I will make time for dance lessons, for making music, for art. Strangely, it's easier with a baby to care for. I don't want to be mediocre as he deserves so much better.
Having a partner who is also an artist is a help... and a hindrance. When I say I need time to create he understands. But I have to say it, or he will just drum all day.
Though the items shown have nothing to do with most of the rest of this post, I wanted to share with you some of the beautiful art I have found in the last week that inspire me and remind me of my desire to be more mythical. Please go check out some more of their work.
Last year I was involved with an amazing event that was so successful we have decided to do it again, but bigger and better. So here we go again, yay! You can find us in the fringe guide, but you can also contact me if you have questions or check out our facebook page or myspace page.
